We research the mechanisms and evolution of collective movement, integrating empirical data, theory, modelling, and technology through three complementary components:

  • SWARMatlas – a comparative data platform for collective motion datasets. Curated by PhD student Chris Yates.

  • SWARM-E – an international research network funded by a ZiF Long-term Group (2027-30) advancing collective behaviour, robotics, and complex systems through collaboration and exchange. Lead by Andrew King, Marina Papadopoulou and Giovanni Reina.

  • SWARMverse open-source software and computational tools for analysing, modelling, and simulating collective behaviour. Developed by Marina Papadopoulou and Simon Garnier.

Together, these initiatives provide an integrated framework that connects discovery science, open data, computational methods, and an international research community to accelerate advances in collective behaviour research. Members of the network are below - get in touch if you want to join in!
